New Release: Android Oreo v1.4 for DART-MX8M Modules

Variscite is pleased to inform about the new Android Oreo update for DART-MX8M modules, based on i.MX8M processors.

Modules: DART-MX8M.
Release: dart-mx8m-recovery-sd.v11 (Android Oreo).

Noteworthy updates:

  • U-Boot:
    • Updated USB ID for fastboot
    • Added recovery key support
    • Reworked bootargs management
    • Disabled video support (fixes issues with customer boards without HDMI ref. clock)
    • Set bootdelay to 1s
    • Updated LPDDR4 initialization code
  • The Linux kernel:
    • reworked bootargs management
    • spi: Use GPIO based CS0 chip select
    • brcmfmac: stop watchdog before detach and free everything
    • brcmfmac: Add support for bcm43364 wireless chipset
    • edt-ft5x06: check wakeup-source dts property
    • switch to wm8904 to fsl-asoc-card
    • Add a Variscite Linux logo
    • Modify drive strength settings of MMC lines
    • Add dual display support
  • Android:
    • tinyalsa: align wm8904 support to fsl-asoc-card usage
    • add missing dts and leave U-Boot manage bootargs
    • i2c-tools: fix Android build
    • var-mksdcard.sh updates

new VAR-SMARC-MX8M-PLUS at Embedded World 2026
Variscite will present a new product lineup built around the Smart Mobility Architecture (SMARC) form factor standard during Embedded World 2026, running March 10-12 in Nuremberg, Germany. The debut will feature the first public reveal of the VAR-SMARC-MX8M-PLUS, running on NXP’s i.MX 8M Plus processor. Visitors can find Variscite at booth 4A-342 in the Exhibition Centre.
