Variscite is pleased to announce, in parallel with NXP’s official release today, its support for Debian 12, based on the Linux kernel 6.6.3, across its i.MX-based solutions.

As an NXP platinum partner, Variscite gained early access to the latest NXP Debian release, enabling our customers to start development on the official version for i.MX application processors ahead of the competition. Variscite will showcase Debian running on the VAR-SOM-MX93 System on Module (SoM), powered by NXP’s i.MX93 SoC, at the upcoming NXP Technology Days in Irvine, California, on August 20, 2024.

“This integration ensures a seamless development experience, even for those new to Linux, making it ideal for rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept projects,” said Ofer Austerlitz, VP of Business Development and Sales at Variscite. “Our close collaboration with NXP enables us to be the first to present a live demonstration of the VAR-SOM-MX93 running Debian at NXP Tech Days Irvine.”

Debian is a full Linux distribution suitable for a variety of general-purpose computing applications, offering ease of use, even for those with no prior Linux experience, allowing fast prototyping and proof-of-concept development. Developers can install precompiled packages without the need for recompilation when adding packages and libraries. Additionally, Debian’s open-source licensing terms facilitate easy modifications and distribution.

Variscite’s SoMs have long supported Debian on NXP’s i.MX processors, and with this release, we continue to support NXP’s upcoming official releases as well.
