Variscite releases the next-generation VAR-SOM-OM54 based on TI’s OMAP5 processor

Just when the market thought processing couldn’t get any faster, Variscite launches the VAR-SOM-OM54 and once again changes the rules of the game. The VAR-SOM-OM54 leverages cutting-edge performance capabilities for embedded and industrial product designs. Based on the OMAP5432 processor from Texas Instruments (TI), this game-changing System On Module (SOM) offers a CPU performance boost of more than 50 percent as compared with the VAR-SOM-OM44 (based on the OMAP4460 processor). With an integrated POWERVR™ SGX544-MPx graphics core and other key accelerators on the OMAP 5 processor, the VAR-SOM-OM54 can handle the most advanced multimedia tasks, including 1080p60 video encoding/decoding, while maintaining low power levels.

VAR-SOM-OM54Key features of the VAR-SOM-OM54 include:

·        TI’s OMAP5432 processor, with two ARM Cortex-A15 MPCores running up to 2.0GHz each

·        Imagination Technologies POWERVR™ SGX544-MPx graphics core

·        Full HD 1080p60 video encode/decode capability

·        Simultaneous multiple display support

·        Gigabit Ethernet

·        S-ATA

·        USB 3.0 OTG
